Purely Cooperative Rules Development

Initial rules will usually be developed by Cooperative Sports Magazine staff. Ongoing refinement of the rules will be a cooperative effort between Cooperative Sports magazine and its readers. We are currently working on rules for Cooperative Tennis, T-Ball and Softball. Would you like to help develop rules for a Purely Cooperative Sport? We would love to hear from you!

To develop rules for a Purely Cooperative Sport, keep the following points in mind:

There is always a single team playing at a time. The object is to better your teams past scores, not beat another team.
Observe what fun and challenging skills are required in the competitive version (if any exists) of the sport and try to preserve them.
If speed is a desirable characteristic, play against the clock. Allow time outs if desired.
The rules should provide a life long challenge that remains fun as your skills improve.
Keep the rules as simple as possible.
Its best if the rules allow for a range of athletic ability on the same team. This allows family, work, school, church and other social groups to easily form teams.
Rules that encourage, or even require, some kind of active participation from every team member should be considered.
The rules should stress team work and cooperation skills as well as individual athletic ability.

Once we have some initial rules (like the ones for T-Ball printed here), we will publish them and request feed back from our readers. Then we’ll integrate the best suggestions into subsequent versions of the rules and publish them again. The process is as cooperative as the sports themselves!
